incompetence-compensation-competence
This "word-gift" was originally created to highlight a philosophical dilemma.
Later, it found meaningful application in management theory.
For us, it serves as a guiding description of the core issue:
"Compensating for a missing ability with another that has developed — both descriptively and correctively."
.
Descriptively, because that's exactly what we do when dependent.
Correctively, because a needed ability emerges, seemingly providing relief.
.
We just don't yet know why — but that's precisely what we should understand.
.
In the "Future" section below, I've elaborated alternative interpretations of this word-gift, as they also feature in my models.
This "word-gift" is easily found by interested parties in the German-speaking internet.
